Second Modified Race of the Season |
Sunday, March 15th, 2009
Today's races got kicked off around 3:00 p.m. We did not get a hop lap session today so we started with the heat races. I drew pill #8 so I started on the pole in heat race 1. It was a dry slick track and with my throttle control around the bottom of the track, I pulled to a full straight away lead after a green, white, checkered finish winning the heat. Features run around with me starting on the pole. I lead the first 6-7 laps before falling to 2nd and later 3rd. I finally learned the limits of the car, as I began to reel in 2nd place that was a full straight away ahead their oil line burst causing oil to soak the bottom groove causing me to spin. On the restart they gave me my spot back because I did not make contact during my spin out, and when going back green I got caught on the outside after sliding to the top from the loose dirt covering the oil. I deciding to bring the car home in one piece so I just rode around the top bringing home an 11th place finish.
Everybody there was very proud of my driving after my first to features!! We made quit a few fans along the way!!
Our next race is Saturday March 21st, hope to see you there!!

First Modified Race |
March 14th, 2009
I raced Saturday night at the "Hummer," Humboldt Speedway. We had a heck of a good first night and are very excited for the rest of the season. We started it off on a muddy slick track for hot laps. I started 7th in the heat race, raced a good, clean, smooth race and drove the car up to a 2nd place finish. We made it to the "A" feature without having to run the "B" feature. I started 8th in the feature; I just kind of kept my own, dodged some major wrecks, and came home in a photofinishing 2nd place.
Everybody was extremely happy with my effort and they all are highly pleased with my smooth driving.
Caney Speedway was cancelled for Friday night so the "Hummer" will once again be hosting another race tomorrow afternoon. |
2009 DIRTZILLA - Kansas City |
The first annual Dirtzilla Nationals were held this last weekend with three members of the Phillips Racing Team attending; Paden, Levi, and Luke. Weather was cool, but the indoor racing action was hot with almost 550 kart entries on hand. Track was a bit smaller than expected and ended up being a little rougher than expected also, but Phillips Racing Team was up for the challenge.
Friday’s action had Paden racing in the Adult light and heavy classes. Both of these classes had the best of the best entered and qualifying was very challenging. The races only took the top 22 qualifiers, so over half the field was not going to make the race. During Paden’s qualifying efforts we could not find the right set of tires and ended up not making either race. Was not how we wanted to qualify, but we still had fun.
Saturdays action had Paden, Levi and Luke all racing today. Paden in the adult heavy class, Levi in the junior three light and heavy class, and Luke in junior one light and heavy class. Qualifying started with Luke in the light class, in which he ran a good line and his tires were close, Luke ended up with a 14th starting position for the feature. Levi was next with the light class in which he struggled a bit but found his way to a 14th starting spot as well. Luke’s heavy class was the next to qualify and he again did very well and found himself in a 12th place starting spot. Levi was then next and he found his way around the track even better and earned himself a 9th place starting spot. Paden was last to qualify and handled the best it had handled all day. However the competition level is so high, he qualified 24th, however they only took 22 karts to the feature. His 24th qualifying position was just 8 tenths of a second off the poll.
Saturday’s feature saw the light and heavy classes inverted from the qualify order and Luke’s heavy class was the first to start. He started in 14th spot and could not get around the 13th place kart and was lapped within the first couple of laps, however a caution flew and he got his lap back starting the race again in 22nd place. This time he was on the wheel and started passing one by one, he ended up the night with a 18th place finish in the heavy class. We are very proud of Luke for his first BIG race against the BIG boys.
Levi’s heavy feature was up next with his best starting position of 9th. Levi was fast out of the gate. He picked them off one by one, however his tires did not kick in until late in the race when he got even faster. We were soooo excited, we thought he was going to win the race as fast as he was. Levi ended up with a 5th place finish in this race and was ready for the next race as he was so fast at the end of this race. AWESOME JOB LEVI !
Luke’s light race was next up and he was more confident than ever. Luke raced such a good race and turned his fastest laps of the day. Luke ended up with a 12th place finish, not getting lapped until there were 2 laps to go. WAY TO GO LUKE !
Levi was the last race of the day for our team. Levi started in 14th and worked his way up to the top 5, then someone from behind hit him and he jumped the tire of the kart in front of him. This resulted in Levi having to go to the back of the 22 kart field. Levi was so fast he worked his way back to the top ten, then he jumped the tire of another kart by accident and this again got him sent to the back of the field. With only a few laps left Levi raced his way up to an 11th place. GOOD JOB LEVI !
Time to take some time off for the winter months. All the Karts will be tore down and completely rebuilt for the winter, oh and Paden got a modified race car for Christmas, so I assume we will be busy with that in our off time as well. Until then, see ya, have fun and turn left !!!!

Midwest Speedway in Urbana, Ks. |
Chanute Kansas is the hometown of PRT, we strive to hit any and all tracks anywhere close! The closest track for us is a 2 hour drive. We recently found a new track 10 minutes from our door step! Midwest Speedway in Urbana Kansas! This track was mainly built for 4-wheelers, but the track owner was wanting some go-karters to start attending. Well this was only the second race ever ran at this facility, there was a total of 4 go-karts there. Levi and I being the only real "professional" go-karts there. We talked to the track owner and got him to only let Levi and I run together! We both were the fastest things there! Levi and I were running 8.6 to 8.9 second laps. We both had our one hot lap session and were in a dead even dog fight! The heat race started with myself on the pole and Levi on the outside, we both were nose to tail the whole race until a late bobble by Levi put about 2 kart lengths between us. Features rolled around with some wild 4-wheeler flips. Mine and Levi’s feature was fourth out. I started on the pole with Levi starting second. Again it was a dead heated battle with nose to tail racing until about halfway through some costly bobbles by Levi resulting in a win by myself and Levi finishing 3-4 kart lengths back in second!
Man was this a fun race track! Everybody who reads these results you should definately go to Midwest Speedway in Urbana Kansas!
We are racing next weekend in the last MASN in Winfield Kansas! C'ya there!!

The Points race today has been cancelled due to the rain.
It will be rescheduled for October 11th.

MASN Cottenwood Ia, Aug. 22-24th |
Friday practice started around 12pm. We were decent through all rounds of practice, but we needed that last 10th of a second. After and L&J team meeting we figured some things out for the next 2 days and were looking forward to the races.
Saturday's races started about 9 am. We were a lot better during morning practice than yesterday. We were racing in the Stock Medium and Stock Light for today. In the first qualifying round we qualified with a 12.4 second lap, then later found out the computers were messed up, so had to re-qualify, which was good, because we increased our spped in the second try to a 12.2 second lap which was good enough to make the field and start in 10th place out of the 34 adults trying to qualify. In Stock Light we had the same setup and qualified again with a 12.2, but this time it was only good enough to start 13th. Stock Medium was the first race up, however, with an outside starting spot on dirt, we slipped back into the field to around 17th place but rebounded once I got down into the groove. I was passing karts right and left, then while passing for 5th place, another competitor jumped my right rear tire and it ripped off our gas tank, resulting in a DNF. We however were very confident after being the second fastest kart on the track according to the my-laps sheets posted by the officials. Next up was the stock light feature; we started 13th in this one however, it turned into a night race with the tempeture in the low fifties, because of the track and qualifying trouble earlier in the day. The lighting at this track was not very good; I do not think the track owner was prepared for a night race at the track. As a result the track was very hard to see and we at one point ended up going off the top of track resulting in another DNF. The Junior Kahuna races for Junior 1,2 and 3 was after the nights of racing which resulted in us not getting back from the track until around 2:30am.
I was a short night, so Sunday's races were delayed by the national organization due to races the night before being so late. We started morning practice and we were decent but not too fast. Sportsman was the first class to qualify and we thought we had it figured out for the pole, but ended up being a 10th of a second off and ended up qualifying 4th in Sportsman Medium. We made a couple of changes, though no too big because we thought we were close to knowing the track. When our group qualified, I ended up in the 4th starting spot again, but by the time all the groups qualified we ended up with a 9th starting spot, which was what we thought was perfect because it was on the inside to we would be in the groove from the start of the race. The races were being run fast since we started later, so the sportsman medium class came around to race fast. In the sportsman class we started in the 4th spot and got a good jump on the guy from fifth and got down into the groove on the first lap. We actually at one point made a challenge for the second spot, but by the end of the caution free race the field has spread out and we ended the day with a 3rd place finish in the sportsman class. This was the best finish of the year at the Nationals, so it felt great to finally make it back to the podium. Next was the Stock Heavy class, we started this race in 9th and had put on a new set of tires. The track seemed to of went away with grip, so the handling of our kart was about .20th's of a second off the leaders, which at nationals is too big of a gap to win a race, but we made the best of it and at one point passed up to about 7th before the push off the corner started getting worse and worse which by the end of the race resulted in a 12th place finish.
Overall was a fun weekend and can not wait for the Grand Nationals at the end of September. C’ya there!!!

Winfield Points, August 16th. |
Today was a "double" point’s show for the rain make up the weekend before. This would be the 10th out of 11 point races at WFS this year.
Everybody in the PRT camp was really fast in hot laps. First set of heat races everybody showed there "A" game with Paden winning in the animal class, Levi finishing a close 2nd in Jr.3. Devin with a 4th, and Luke with a 3rd both in Jr.1. Again for the second heats everybody was on there "A" game! Paden won the animal heat, Levi finishing in 4th in Jr.3 after battling for the lead earlier in the race, Devin with a close 3rd place finish, and Luke a fast run in 4th. Features were good for PRT also with Paden winning the animal feature by over a half lap, Levi finishing 4th after battling for the lead many times, Devin finished with an 3rd place finish, with Luke not far behind in 5th.
The Second race was no different! PRT was on top of there game! We started with Paden dominating the first heat in the animal class. Next up was Levi. Levi was on top of his game, leading most of the race, but slipping back to 2nd for the finish. Luke and Devin were flying! Luke and Devin tag teamed there way up to a 2nd and 3rd place finish! For the second heats nothing changed, Paden continued to dominate the animal class with another victory. Levi was fast as heck but couldn’t get more than a 3rd place finish out of it. Devin and Luke both were flying again with Devin finishing 2nd, and Luke in 4th. Features rolled around with Paden first up. Paden again won the animal feature in dominance, sweeping the animal class for the weekend. Levi started second and just didn’t have the tires right, resulting in a 4th place finish. Levi and Mike think they figured something out for the last point’s race, so watch out for Levi! Last but certainly not least was the Jr.1 feature. This was the best from both Devin and Luke I think we have ever seen! Devin and Luke were amazingly fast! The only thing that needs work is there passing skills. Both Devin and Luke held there ground with Devin finishing 2nd, and Luke not far behind in 5th.
Our next race is the MASN in Cottonwood Ia! C'ya there!

MASN Kansas City Ks, July 25-27th 2008 |
There was 434 entries on hand for the 3rd MASN race at Thunderlake Speedway in Kansas City.
Friday practice started around 2 Friday afternoon after it was rain delayed for a while. The track was fast as it was going to be this weekend. We were pretty fast but still had not tried our new tires, so we were ready for Saturday.
Saturday was extremely hot. We were fast through morning practice. Qualifying came around and we ended up locking ourselves down for both qualifying sessions. We qualified 33rd in Med and 11th in lite out of 41 adult drivers trying to make the 27 car fiels. We had to re-qualify for the med feature because they only took the top 18 in the first qualifiing session. In second round qualifiying they took the top 8 qualifiers and we ended up qualifiying 5th so we made the championship race. Luke has good sucess and qualified 2nd in the Chase'n Race'n Kids class. First feature up was Stock Medium and we raced all the way up to the 10th position before slipping back to 17th by the end. Next up was Luke, Luke started on the outside pole, he started off a little wild, but later calmed down to win day one of the Chase'n Race'n Kids championship! Last but not least was stock lites, I where we were scheduled to start 11th, however, we ended up not getting to run this feature because of rain. Everybody that qualified for this championship race was awarded first place points.
Sunday came around and we thought we had our problems figured out. We were loose but fast in morning practice. Qualifying came around, and sportsman was up first. We qualified 7th in the sportsman class, and 21st in stock heavy. Luke then qualified on the G-Man Kartworks pole for the Chase'n Race'n Kids championship race on sunday! Features came around and the Sportsman class was up first, in which we started 7th and quickly moved up to the 3rd position (Dad thought we were going to win this one, he was excited). I ran in the 3rd spot for the whole race until the last lap, where another kart passed me on the last lap, so I ended up finishing in the 4th position. Next race for us was Stock Pro Heavy. I started 21st, we ran a good race, just went the wrong way with the changes after the sportsman class, in which we only had two races to make the necessary changes, but still made our way thought the field finishing 12th. th elast feature for us was Luke. Luke started on the G-Man Kartworks pole, Luke lead every lap and won the second day of the Chase'n Race'n kids by over a straightaway. He was the smoothest driver of the day.
Overall results for Paden was out of 41 adult drivers a 3rd and 12th place finish. Luke's results include cliaming a win both days and one fast lap qualifiying pole in the rookie class on Sunday. (just a note: Luke is the first two race winner in the rookie class)
Our Next Race is in Winfield August 9th.

Winfield Points, July 19th 2008 |
Man it was a HOT day today! Highs in the upper 90's with the heat index over 100!
There was nobody racing in the animal class, so Paden decided to sit this race out and just help people out around the pit area.
Heats started around 5. First up was Levi, in the first heat Levi started on the outside pole, he got pushed back, but fought his way back up to second before getting knocked back again to finish last. In Levi's second heat race, the same thing happened but his results were different with a 5th place finish.
Next up was Devin and Luke. For the first heat race, Luke started third row outside, and Devin fourth row outside, this was a very good race, Luke and Devin ran a good race, with a side-by-side finish for 3rd and 4th with Luke finishing 3rd and Devin 4th. In their second heat, Luke and Devin both started up front, with Luke leading about 3 laps before spinning out. After the caution they went green for the rest of the race with Luke finishing 5th and Devin 6th.
Levi was first up for the features, he started third row outside for the feature. Levi was having major handling problems, just couldn’t get the setup right, resulting in a 5th place finish.
Devin and Luke were next up, Luke started second row inside with Devin right behind him. Luke and Devin both ran a good race, Luke was battling for the third position, but spun out without a caution thrown. Devin ran a good consistent race, resulting with a 4th place finish! Luke ran with the top 2 karts, but a lap down. Luke finished in the 6th position, we later found out after the race Luke ran a tenth faster than the winner of the Jr.1 race.
Our next race will be the MASN in Thunderlake Speedway in KC.

Winfield Points, July 5th, 2008 |
Today was only a fun race, not for points. They decided at the drivers meeting that they would do a "50 lap feature" for Jr1, and Jr3. We started the day with 3 rounds of practice. Paden, Levi, Devin, and Luke were all pretty fast in the practice sessions we had. Levi was first of the PRT members, Levi was having handling troubles in both of this heat races, just couldn’t get the tire program right, he finished 3rd and 4th. Next up was Devin, and Luke. Devin and Luke were both fast but didn’t have the edge they needed, Luke finished 7th and 8th, and Devin finished 6th and 7th. Paden was last up, he was extremely fast in both of his heat races. Paden won both heats by a long ways. First feature was Paden's, Paden started on the pole, he lead every lap and won by over a straightaway. Next up was Luke and Devin. There first 25 lap segment went by pretty fast, Devin and Luke were about 5th and 6th the whole first segment. After some changes at halfway Luke was extremely fast, he made it up to about 4th before he spun out. Devin was still about a 6th place go-kart, he was suffering a tight condition. Luke finished 5th and Devin finished 6th. Last but not least was Levi's feature. Levi's first session, he ran around the 4th position the whole time, Levi's go-kart was pushing pretty bad coming out of the corner. After the half time adjustments, Levi's go-kart went from one extreme to the other. Levi was running in the 3rd position but ended up 4th after a last lap pass.
Our next race is a Winfield Points, July 12th

MASN Massena, IA, June 27-29th |
The second race of the Mid-America Speedway Nationals was held at Thunder Valley Speedway in Massena Iowa. It did not get off to a very good start. We arrived at track early in the morning on Friday, but seen there was nothing but a water hole. Well around 3 we started getting trailers into the pit area. We ended up getting 2 rounds of practice before the rain showered us again.
I got on the track late in the afternoon on Saturday. I started off with 2 rounds of practice followed by qualifying, first up was the St. Med, I qualified 12th out of 32 karts. Next up was the Animal Hvy, I qualified 10th out of 17 karts. Last but not least was St. Lite, I qualified 19th out of 24 karts. I ran decent in all 3 classes, just could not get any grip at all on the slick track, I finished 19th in St. Med, 13th in Animal Hvy, and 17th in St. Lite.
Sunday the track was much better than it was the day before. The races started late again, but I began the day with 2 rounds of practice. Qualifying rolled around and first up was Animal Med, I qualified 9th out of 22 karts. In St. Hvy I qualified 8th out of 27 karts. First up was the Animal Med feature, I started in the 9th position and quickly made my way forward to the 4th position, but a bad call sent me to the back of the 22 kart field. As soon as I was put to the back it started raining. They ended the race with a quick Green, White, checkered finish. Well everyone was slipping and sliding around the track, and I seemed to make my way up to the 9th position out of the 22 kart field. After that the races were rained out, and all classes that have not raced yet received 1st place points.
Our next race is at Winfield for a "fun race" hope 2 c’ya there!!

June 23, 2008 |
Happy 8th Birthday, Luke!!!! |
Winfield Points, June 14th |
We started the day with a little mudding experience. The track was really muddy, but later dried out very very badly and turned dry slick.
Paden started second row inside in his first heat race, he pulled into the lead and rocketed to a big win. In his second heat race, Paden started on the outside pole and pulled to the lead, but due to a mechanical error, he finished with a DNF.
Levi started on the outside pole in his first heat race. He was fast but could not get by the leader resulting in a second place finish. In his second heat race, Levi started on the pole and took off to a big win.
Devin started second row inside, and Luke started outside pole for the first heat. Devin ran upfront most of the race, but after a bad choice was made, he finished 6th. Luke was having problems keeping his go-kart on the track because of the terrible track conditions, resulting in an 7th place finish. In the second heat race, Devin started 6th, and Luke started 7th. Devin ran a good race, but didn’t have the setup just right, finishing 4th. Luke again was having problems with the very slick track conditions. He spun a couple times and couldn’t keep his go-kart on the track finishing 7th.
The first feature was Paden. Paden started second row inside, passed for the lead going into turn one. He pulled to a big lead and won!
Levi was second up for PRT; Levi was starting on the outside pole. He beat the pole sitter down into turn one and he pulled to a full straightaway lead and won!
Devin and Luke were next up. Devin started in 5th, and Luke started in 8th. Devin and Luke both improved their performances on the track! Devin ran a very good race and finished 5th. Luke did a very very good job! Luke didn’t spin out one time; he was having a hard time passing people, but got it down fast! Luke ended up finishing 7th.
The next race in MASN in Massena, IA
|
Winfield Points, June 7th |
Today they are running the double show again. Luke was the only one out of the PRT members to race the first race. In Luke's heat races, he was having some problems. In Luke’s first heat race, Luke was having a problem with leaning his head, and scooting forward in his seat. Well in the second heat race we fixed Luke’s leaning problem, but his seat strut moved over into the clutch. We fixed all the problems for the feature and Luke finished 5th.
Paden, Levi, Devin, and Luke were all running in the second show. In Paden's heat races, he was really fast, but could not get the setup right, but still won both heats. Levi was decent in both heats; he was suffering a very tight condition finishing 3rd and 4th in his heat races. Devin was pretty good in his heat races, but didn’t get the finished they were looking for, finishing towards the back in both heats. Luke was about the same in his heats, Luke was having problems because he is growing and his peddles were too close to him, and his foot kept pushing the brake down. So Luke also finished around the rear in both heats. In the features, Paden started on the pole, he ran a good race, but was having a very ill handling kart finishing in 2nd. Levi started 4th in his feature, and Levi powered himself up to second place, and battled most the race with the #12 go-kart, and when the checkered flag flew Levi was in the 3rd spot. Devin started 4th and Luke started 5th in their Jr. 1 feature. Luke and Devin both ran nose to tail most of the race. They were both fighting ill handling go-karts. Devin finished 5th and Luke 6th.
Our next race is Winfield June 14th.

MASN Warrensburg Mo, May 30-1 |
First national race of the year with just over 400 entries. There where trailers everywhere !!!!!
Well we headed up to Lasoski Speedway around 2. We got there and found out that we was not getting to park until friday morning so we went back to the hotel. Well we swam, played some ding-dong ditch, and we also was kicked out of our hotel. Dad and mom were so mad, so we were heading back home, but we got a hotel in KC, then mom and dad grounded me and we got to drive back on Friday morning.
Friday started off a little better, but not much, early in the morning the wind smashed Luke's leg in a trailer door. Well after all our bad luck got over with, we started up practice, and ran very well infact! We were looking forward to the weekend ahead!
Saturday morning practice rolled around quick, we were pretty quick in both the animal and the flathead. Qualiying didnt go so well though. We qualified 9th in animal, 15th in lite, 19th in med. In lite's we ran a pretty decent race, finishing up one position in 14th. In med we ran about the same, couldn't get ahold of the track, finishing 15th, 4 positions higher than qualifing. In the animals, we were going around on the pace laps, and lost a clutch bolt, resulting in a 20th place finish.
Sunday we decided to start a brand new tire program, second round practice, it was looking pretty promising. But qualifying wasnt as we wanted. Paden qualified 12th in Animal heavy, and 16th in Stock Pro heavy. In the animal feature, Paden was fast at the beginning of the race driving his way up to 7th, but later losing the grip on the tires resulting around a 18th place finish. In the stock pro heavy class Paden started 16th, ran a good, clean race, but didnt quit have enough to get up there to the front resulting in a finish around mid pack.
All in all we had a pretty good weekend, not quit what we were expecting, but it'll do!
Our next race is in WFS for a regional points race. |
Winfield Points May 10, 2008 |
Only 3 of the PRT members were racing this weekend. Devin and Rhonda went to a high school graduation instead (Congrats, Nicci).
Mike had the track packed really tight, and that’s the only thing that let us race, around 2:30-3 the skies opened up, pounding Winfield with heavy rains and pea sized hail. About 5 o’clock was when we first got on the track.
All 3 of the PRT racers were fast throughout hot laps. The first heats rolled around. Paden started on the outside pole for both of his heat races. In Paden's first heat race, he ran right with the leader, but could not make the pass. In his second heat race, Paden also started on the outside pole, and won this race by a couple of kart lengths.
Levi started last, and pole for this heat races. In Levi's first heat race, he ran a close second right on the leaders tail. In his second heat race, Levi got out to the lead and pulled away from the pack.
Luke started in 6th and outside pole for his heats. In Luke's first heat race, we forgot he had spun in hot laps and got stuck, well Luke not knowing any better, he burnt up his clutch trying to get out. So Luke had a burnt up clutch on and finished 6th in his first heat race. In his second heat, we got a new clutch (Thx, Jeff) and Luke ran a good race, but finished 5th.
Paden started on the pole for his feature, he started first and finished first, Paden lead the whole thing, and won in dominating fashion.
With Levi, it was pretty much the same deal. Levi started on the outside pole and just drove off from the field and won in dominating fashion.
Luke started 6th for this feature, he was having troubles with the wind blowing him around the track, also with leaning this head to the left of the go-kart, Luke did a good job for the conditions finishing 5th. All in all it was a good weekend for PRT.
Next race is Lasoski Speedway in Warrensburg MO for the first race of the Mid-America Speedway Nationals.

Winfield Points, May 3, 2008 |
Today was a much better day than last weekend! No trips to the hospital or anything.
This weekend was a one race, race thank God. We started the day with the Monthly Team Champion picks. Paden was with Kristi (don’t know how that happened but oh well) Levi was with Nicholas Kyle. Devin was with Cody Kretchmar. And Luke was with Steve Allen.
Well Paden was first to race, Paden started in the front, due to people getting taken out on the first lap of both heats. Paden easily drove his L&J Powered Icon to the win.
Levi started 3rd in both of his heat races. Levi drove to win his first heat race, and finish a close 3rd in his other heat race.
Devin ran very well today in both of his heat races, but due to some late spins did not get the finished they wanted.
Luke ran very well finishing 3rd in his first heat race, and 6th in his second heat.
Paden was the first to race his feature. Paden started on the pole, and just running a clean smart race, finishing a half lap ahead of the second place kart.
Levi started on the outside pole for his feature, Levi slipped back to the rear. He later slide off the track and hit the fence post. Well this brought Levi's go kart to life. After Levi's crash, he drove his kart up to the second position.
Next up was Luke and Devin. Luke and Devin both started in the rear of the field. Luke and Devin were running 2nd and 4th in the late running, but Devin later spun to cause a yellow flag. Well Luke did not need this yellow flag. It cooled Luke's tires down too much resulting in a 4th place finish. But this caution, cooled Devin’s tires down, and Devin shot out of a canon, and drove his kart up to a 3rd place finish on a green, white, checkered.
Paden and Kristi were the highest team for this month finishing 2nd. The monthly team champions really helped us meet new people and show them what PRT is all about.

Winfield Points, April 26, 2008 |
Wow, what a day this was, it first started off with an Ambulance call, taking Paden to the ER, Paden was helping officiate while packing in the track, he was struck by a go kart, Feet in the air, and his head hitting the ground. His right ear area scrapped and bleeding, and his legs scrapped and sore, they decided to take him in. He was alright and later raced that night.
Levi and Luke were the only two of the PRT to race the first race for April 26th. Levi ran well in his heats, finishing 2nd and 3rd. Levi started the feature in the 3rd position and ran a good hard race, finishing 2nd.
Luke missed his heat races, because he was at the hospital with his brother, Paden. Luke started last for his feature, but ran a pretty good race, got up to about 4th, but later slipping back to finish 6th.
The second race had all 4 of the PRT racer in it. Paden was sore, but was attempting to race. Paden did a very good job by finishing 2nd and 1st in his to heats.
Levi was really fast in both of his heats too with a 1st and 3rd place finish.
Devin was fast, but could not keep his kart in the grove resulting in a couple spin outs.
Luke was pretty fast in his heats also finishing around mid-pack.
In the features, Paden started on the outside pole, lead a bit of the race, but later lost the lead and finished 2nd.
Levi started on the outside pole as well. Levi had a very tight condition, resulting in a 5th place finish.
Next up was Luke and Devin. Dad & Paden had trouble starting Luke's motor, so Luke did not get to race his feature. Devin ran around the back in his feature, he couldn’t get his line right, resulting in a 6th place finish.
I want to Thank everyone for their care and concern during Paden's scary incident. Also Thanks to Darrin for checking him over. That put an ease in my mind when I seen you over there. We have some amazing fellow racers and their families at Winfield. ~ Heather

Winfield Points, April 19, 2008 |
Saturday was a beautiful day for racing! Highs in the upper 70s!
This year we had 3 of our 4 PRT drivers move up a class. Paden moved from Jr3 to adults, Levi moved from Jr2 to Jr3, and Luke moved from rookie to Jr1.
This was the first race of the season for Winfield, it was also one of their "double" headers. They ran two complete shows. Well only Luke ran the two shows. This was Luke's first time racing in the Jr1 class. In Luke's hotlaps, he ran pretty good, he spun out quit a bit. Luke finished his heats around the back, mostly because of spins. Luke finished in the rear to start for the feature, and moved up through the field, but later spinning, resulting in a 7th out of 8 place finish.
The second race started around 6. All members of the PRT raced in this feature. The second race was for points and 60% payback.
Paden started in last, and in first for his two heats, in his first heat, Paden worked his way up to 2nd place, but could not catch the leader. In his second heat race Paden started on the pole, and won the race by a straight away.
Levi started right in the middle of the pack in both of his heat races. In Levi's first heat race, Mike overfilled the gas tank, making the motor miss, resulting in a 3rd place finish. In his second heat race, they made sure they did not overfill his gas tank, and Levi drove his kart up to 2nd.
Devin and Luke are racing in the same class this year, so we are going to combine them. Luke started in 4th in both his heats, and Devin started 5th and 3rd in his heats. Luke and Devin both ran very good in there heats, Devin was running exceptionally well, finishing in the 3rd and 4th positions. Luke was getting the hang on his gokart better and better through his heat races, running 5th in his first heat, but ended up spinning, but finishing 5th in his second heat!
The features were exciting for all the 3 classes PRT was in. The first up was the Adult animals, Paden started on the outside pole, he ran a very smooth race, but overdrove his kart to early resulting in a 1-2-3 nose to tail 3 place finish.
Levi's feature was a good one as well, levi started on the outside pole, faded away, came back to lead a good part of the race, but to later lose the lead and finish 2nd.
Last but not least, it's Luke and Devin's features. Luke started 8th and Devin started 4th. Luke and Devin ran very good races, On about lap 8 Devin while running 3rd, drove down into turn 3 too hard spinning, but also hitting a fence post. Devin hurt his ribs in the colision, but was later ok. All Luke needed was a caution to rest a little bit, because after the caution Luke was on fire! Luke drove threw the field fast and clean! When the checkered waved, Luke was in the 5th position!
Congrats to all the PRT on there finishes!
We will be traveling back to Winfield next weekend! see ya'll there!! |
Semo Raceway, April 4-5, 2008 |
We started the morning at 5:00, We were on the road for our 7.5 hour drive. Well about 8:00 we get the call from the boss sayin practice was rained out. So we took it easy the rest of the way there, and luckily having extra time, with the fuel filter going out on the truck, going up a hill passing a car. LOL Well we finally found a auto parts store with the right fuel filter, so we got that change and we were headed to the races again. We arived at the track to see a washed out race track. It wasnt looking to hopeful for tomorrows racing.
We got up bright and early for the second day in a row to yet again have our feelings hurt with rain. The track owner worked on the race track all morning and finally we got on the track about 3 in the afternoon.
Hot laps started with a very soft, but dusty track. I were looking pretty good going into qualifying. For Stock Medium, I qualified 10th place locking myself in for the 20 kart set field. In the Light and Heavy qualifying, I qualified 11th, and 13th. Well with the way they had it set up, I had to RE-qualify. So we rushed around trying to get everything ready, and qualified 16th in both light and heavy.
The features started about 11, maybe 12 at night. First up was the Medium. I stared 10th, well starting on the outside of any race isnt the best thing, but starting on the outside on a one laned dusty track just sucked. I was trying some new rubber trying to find any grip, and that was NOT the thing to do. I slid my way straight to the back.
In the Light feature, I was running around the 11th position, when my butterfly broke on the motor, causing a DNF.
In the Heavy feature, I started in the 16th position and pretty much stayed around that position, but soon running out of gas on the last lap of our 55 lap caution delayed race, resulting in one more DNF.
When driving home Sunday, we realized that my motor had been down some HP, so we sent our motor into Mr. Jones to get rebuilt. Watch out boys we're out to get ya this year!
I'd like to thank my uncle Mike for coming along on this trip and helping out on the karts all weekend! |
Tulsa Shootout |
This weekend was going to be my first adult race. We arrived at the track about 9 o'clock on Friday morning and waited until 4:30 before getting on the track. We were pretty happy with the results after practice. We were keeping up with the lead boys.
On Friday we got to the track at about 9:30 and didn’t get on the track until about 5. First up was stock lite, we started in the middle of the field and didn’t have any grip and slide around then later spinning out. In the med heat, we started on the outside pole and lead 6 outta the 8 laps but slide back to 3rd place, with only 2 transferring. In the hvy heats I started dead last. We slowly but surly made it up threw the field and finished 2nd, transferring to the A main. We have to run 2 B features tomorrow.
That 6 o'clock wake up call came early today. We got to the track about 9:30 and waited around until around 3 or 4 to get on the track. First we had the lite feature. We started at the back because of the spin in the heat. Our kart was very loose and slick and I couldn’t keep it in the grove so we did not make the lite feature. Next up was the Med B feature. I started on the outside pole, going down into turn one on the first lap, got moved out of the grove and slide back to last, but I slowly made it up to the top 4, and that’s where I finished with only 3 transferring to the main feature. We had a very fast group so we were proud that we were running with them. Well we only made one feature, but at Tulsa that is better than none. We got second in the hvy heat, which put me starting 12th in the feature. We went down into turn one and the gokart stuck and flew! Before I knew it I was passing some of the best, Eddie Brose, Josh Most, Jody Krug, and I was up to 4th place pulling the leaders, but on the last lap missing my line out of turn 2 causing a kart to get under me and resulting in a 5th place finish! We were excited because this was our very first professional adult race.
I would like to thank Jim Jones for the motors and tires and Lloyd Jones for the great coaching (we owe him another Applebee’s visit now) both of L&J Karting, and most defiantly I would like to thank my dad and my mom for putting up all the hard work and the $$, and my girl Kristi for her help on the kart this weekend!
Thank you all for everything

Phillips racing team left with 5 wins overall
Friday, We started out the weekend with some hotlaps, the track was very fast and very smooth. Luke was the first up to race his heats, luke basically dominated his heat race but winning with over a half lap. Levi was next up, Levi ran good at first but later slowed down finishing 2nd in the lite's heat race. In the heavy's Levi ran a good race and finished 3rd. Paden was next up and was fast in a dominating fashion and won by over a half lap in both his lite and heavy heat race. In the second heat races Luke again was really fast and won by a long ways, this put him on the pole for the feature! Levi started to lose the handle on his gokart and finished 3rd and 5th in his second set of heat races. Paden was again really fast by winning the lite heat race, but getting in a crash and finishing 6th in his heavy heat race.
Next up was features:Luke started on the pole for his feature and yet again luke dominated the rookie class getting PRT 1 of there 5 wins! Levi started mid-pack in both of his features, still fighting an ill handleing gokart, it resulted in a 3rd place in the lite's and 5th place finish inthe heavy's. Paden started on the first race on the pole (1st) and his second feature second row inside (3rd). In the first feature, Paden totally dominated by about a half lap for the win. In the second feature, Paden again when straight to the front and won by about 1/3 of a lap, giving Paden 2 of the 5 PRT wins.
Saturday, Luke started out the day of racing on saturday. Luke once again like he has been the whole weekend, dominated both heat races finishing 1st place in both! Levi got some new tires and a brand new set up for Saturdays racing. In Levi's heats, Levi finished 4th in the lites and 6th in the heavy's. Not what they were looking for. In Paden's lite heats Paden finished 2nd and 1st (look out the rest of the field is catching up to our speed). In his heavy heats, paden finished 1st and 3rd.
Next up was features for Saturday: Luke started out the PRT features, Luke made it an exciting feature by lapping some karts! and giving PRT there 4th feature win of the weekend! Levi was the second to race, Levi ran some good hard races but not getting nearly the finishes they wanted finishing 3rd and 5th. They later found they had a bad motor and that was the problem all weekend. Paden was the last to race. He started on the pole in his lite feature and ran a good race and won it by a straitaway, giving PRT there 5th feature win of the weekend! Paden started on the outside pole in the heavys. Paden lead the whole thing untill a lap car got in the way spinning Paden. He restarted in the back of the field and came threw the field and was running down the top 2 karts but ran out of time and finished 3rd!
PRT had a great weekend of racing, looking forward to the 2008 season! c'ya then!

This weekend is the last points race for Wheatland Karting. PRT finished the night with 2 Championships!! The track was a one lane no grip track. We started the night off with Luke. Luke was very fast in his first heat race, but ran out of time finishing 2nd. Devin was fast in his first heat but ran into some bad luck finishing 5th. Levi started on the pole and took off to a big lead but then slowly it got smaller untill he was passed for the lead ending him up in 2nd. I started in the 7th postion and within two laps was up to the lead and then won. In the second heat races, Luke was once again really fast but again finished 2nd. Devin was fast but not fast enough resulting in a 5th place finish again. Levi started last, worked his way threw the field, and with a photo finish, Levi finished 2nd. I started on the outside pole, and rocketed to another win. Half of the PRT's features were called for rain and the other half were ran. Luke was first out, Luke started up front but slid backwards but later to power his way up to a photo finish 2nd place run! Devin started near the back, and by this time it was misting but they were still running. Devin raced a good race since it was raining and he ended up with a 8th place finish. Levi's class was delayed for about 20min but then they got to go out. Levi started outside pole and by this time the rain started again but they still were running. Levi rocketed himself to a huge lead untill the rain stopped the race with a red flag. They werent able to start racing again and since they had not made it to halfway yet they awarded the victory to Ryan Secrest. For my race, they never got it started because of the rain so I was awarded the win because of my starting postion. Levi as myself were awarded Wheatland Karting Assosiaction Championships. Hard work this year paid off!!
Not sure when our next race will be, but we will keep you posted!! |
Winfield Grand Nationals |
Morning Practice roled around pretty fast on Saturday. We went out and was fast from the get go. In last round practce we got into a crash breaking the body and after qualifying finding a bend spindle. In lite practice we qualifyed 8th, which was dissapointing because we were one of the fastest in practice. Well we were looking and we found a bent spindle. So we changed that and went out and qualifyed 2nd to L&J Teammate Drake. In the lite feature i started in the 8th spot. On the start i quickly slid back to 11th, but slowly one by one i picked them off untill i got up to teammate drake. Well a late caution bunched up the pack again. On the restart i just plain took off! I had a 6 kart length lead after 1 lap. The laps were wiending down and with 4 laps to go i felt the engine sputter going down the back stretch. The next lap the engine shut off. Resulting in a finish at the back. We found out we ran out of gas. The next feature roled around with myself starting on the outside pole. On the start i got a jump on the pole sitter and beat him down into turn one. With two laps to go, i heard the draft break. It was drake, i slapped the door, but missed my corner. This resulted in Drake taking the lead and the Win. We finished 2nd place, our best finish of the season.
On Sunday we were the class of the field in practice (with the clouds out) In lite qualifying the sun popped out right before i went out, so the kart was tight and this resulted in a 8th place qualifying run. In our heavy qualifying, we were faster qualifying 5th, but the rain came down during the jr heavy class. There was too much rain too dry the track out. First place points were given to all the racers.
Fun weekend for PRT, Our next race is Wellington, the last points race of the season. c ya'll there! |
Winfield Points |
PRT traveled over to Winfield for the final race of the season.
We ended up the night with Paden winning the Jr.3 Championship, Luke winning the rookie Championship, Levi tieing for the Jr.2 Championship, and Devin finishing 4th in the Jr.1 class.
We started the day with hotlaps with everybody in the PRT stable being rocket fast! First to race is Luke. Luke was really fast but finished 2nd in two close races with his good friend Mavrick. Second to race was Devin, Devin was fast in both heat races with a 2nd and 3rd place camera. Levi was super fast in both his heats with two 1st place finishes. I ran both my heats, fast, but not fast enough to beat Mr. Carlson. I finished 2nd and 3rd in the heats. Well feature roled around pretty quick. Luke was the first to race. He started on the outside pole. Luke was in second the whole race untill the last lap he made his move and passed for the lead and the win! This 1st place finished won Luke the rookie Championship! Devin was second to race. He started second row inside. Devin ran a good clean race, no spin outs and came home in the 3rd spot! Devin ended up 4th in the Championship standings. Levi was the third race out for PRT. Levi started on the pole and took off when the green flag flew, but about halfway through the race a close following Lucas Gibbs joined the picture. With about 5 laps to go Lucas made his move to pass for the lead and the win. Levi came home 2nd, Tieing the two of them for the Championship! Last but not least Paden's class roled around. Paden started on the outside pole. On the start Paden slipped back to 2nd but then later slide back into the 3rd postion and thats where he finished! Paden locked up the Championship in the Jr.3 Division.
Our Next Race Is The Chain Dragon Grand Nationals In Winfield Next Weekend! See Ya'll There!! |

Well we started out the day by going mudding while "packing" the track. It was a big fun old mess! The heats rolled around with the track improving to a pretty fast track. The first heat race was for Luke. Luke was a little nervous about the race since he spun and was wrecked the last week. He finished 4th of 6 in the first heat race. Next race was Devin, Devin started in the back in the first heat race and made his way up to fourth, was fast but needed a little more speed for the feature. Next was Levi's heat race, Levi started the race real loose, he ended the race with a third place finish. The last one in the first round heats was Paden, he started on the last row and worked his way to the lead by about half way. Paden however forgot about putting gas in the kart and ran out on the last lap, but had enough of a lead to still finish in the second position. The track was coming around nicely for the second set of heat races, again first out was Luke, Luke started the outside pole and chased the leader down on the last lap and lost by less then 2 feet. In Devin's second heat race, He started on the pole and had a fourth place finish again. Levi's second heat race got better but he was still fighting a loose gokart, Levi ran well and finished with a second place. Paden's second heat race had Paden starting on the pole and finishing in first with a half lap lead. By the time features rolled around night was falling and the track was starting to lose some grip. Luke started his feature in the third position and ran a good race, but allowed a fellow racer to get around him at the end and he finished in 4th place. Devin's feature was an exciting race that seen Devin go from the back to the front to the back again only to finish in the 8th position. Levi's feature had him starting on the second row inside. Levi lost some positions on the start, but powered back into second however by the time he was in second the leader had pulled away resulting in a second place finish. Paden started on the pole, and from the drop of the green flag his L&J horsepowered Icon powered him to a 3/4 of a lap win. Good Job Everyone!
We will be taking this next weekend off to catchup around the house, so the next race will be the Points race at Winfield. Hope everyone can make it. See ya there ! |
Spencer Lord Memorial Race |
The day started out early with the entire Phillips Racing Team leaving the house at 5:15am. The day started with the hot lap sessions being the fastest of the year, and then heat races continued through out the afternoon until around 5:30pm. Throughout the Heat racing action the track had become very dry slick and very narrow and dusty. During the intermission, Virgil Harvey went to work on the track to prepare it for the Feature events. Features finally got started around 8pm. With a very good crowd of spectators looking on and a full pit as well, before each class took the green flag, drivers and karts were brought out onto the main straight away and introduced. All feature events went very well with hardly any major accidents. One of the feature races was in the Jr 3 Heavy class. This was one of the 50 lap races that paid $750 to win. Kristi Pangburn lead the first 25 laps to the yellow/red flag. The karts were stopped to refuel. Again the green flag was giving for the final 25 laps. And once again Kristi lead the field, but this time she was being followed by Paden Phillips and Lucas Gibbs. These three raced nose to tail for about 5 laps. As Lucas began to fall back just a little Kristi and Paden continued their battle. With about 18 laps to go Paden took the lead and then Kristi made a bobble. Paden now had about a 1/4 lap lead. But slowly lap after lap, the #12 kart dialed in on the #98. With 2 laps to go Kristi caught Paden and passed him for the lead. But, Paden kept himself there and retook the lead as the white flag was giving and went on to take the checkered flag. It was a great win for Paden, but even more bittersweet, as Paden had just beat his "girl friend" for the Championship Trophy. The win was Paden's 2nd for the evening as he also won the Jr 3 light class. Other Phillips racing team memebers finishes Levi 5th and 4th, Luke 4th and Devin 13th of 20. Good job everyone.
Thanks to Jeff, Tonya & Haley Lord for letting us share the memories of Spencer.
Next race is a points race next weekend at Wellington. Hope to see ya there. |
Warrensburg Nationals |
Friday, Practice was rained out!!!
Saturday, Morning practice came around quick, I wasnt the fastest but wasnt the slowest, so we were halfway pleased. Qualifying came around and i qualifyed 9th, and 11th. In the first feature, I stayed around 11th place and finished on the lead lap in 12th. In the second feature, i started 9th, i was running better than the earlier feature, but spun out and was a lap down, but after spinning i was running with the top 5 karts.
JR KAHUNA, Levi was really fast in practice, with myself being a half second off. Qualifying came around and Levi qualified 9th. I forgot my transponder, so the result was i was starting last. In Levi's race, on the second lap got his tire jumped and pushed the body down into the LR tire, causing him to get black flagged. In my feature, i started last and with a first lap crash the involved over half the field, i t-boned a kid and sheered the rear gear off. I would like to congradulate, Trevor Hunt, Cayden Carter, and Shayle Bade on there Kahuna wins!
Sunday, Well it was a short night, but Sunday was here, and we were ready! Levi was pretty quick in morning practice, i was pretty quick but not fast enough. In qualifying, Levi qualified 9th and 12th. I qualified 12th, and 14th. Levi ran good races but finished 11th and 12th. We found a bent spindle on my kart, so we were pretty pumped for the features. In the first feature i started 14th, was quick but couldnt get my way through the field finishing around 8th. In the second feature, i started 12th and was up to 6th place but was slammed into the side and got spun. So i got put to the back but made my way back up to 12th place in only 5 laps.
Fun Weekend,
Next race is Next Weekend the Spencer Lord Memorial Race.
hope to c'ya'll there!!! |

Friday, On friday Paden was decent, he wasnt the fastest but wasnt the slowest, so we were happy with the practice results.
Saturday, On saturday, morning practice when by fast, with myself right in the hunt. Qualifying came around and I didnt do so well qualifying 12th, and 14th. Well features rolled around and in the first feature i was locked down and didnt go anywhere. The second feature i started 14th and i was up to about 7th or 8th, but got crashed and black flagged or unsportsman like conduct.
Sunday, On Sunday we were feeling pretty good with some over night changes that were made. In both morning practices i was the class of the field. But as soon as qualifying rolled around we qualifyed 18th, and 20th. In the first feature i didnt move to far up the boards finishing 15th. In the second feature, we made a whole lot of changes but still ran around the back finishing 18th. After sending the motor back 2 the shop with Mr. Jones we found out we had a motor go bad. Bad Luck!
Fun weekend all en all, Next race is Wellington Ks points |

Winfield July 21, 2007 |
Well the Phillips Racing Team is back in form, with Paden and Levi winning their features and Luke finishing second in his feature. (Devin was out this weekend due to poison oak, got it camping with g'ma and g'pa this week)
The night started with Paden, Levi and Luke winning the first heat race of the night, then in the second heat race Paden had a third, but Luke and Levi kept the streak going with both of them winning their heat races. The features rolled around and Luke and Levi started on the pole with Paden starting second. In Luke’s feature he started the race a little slow and ended up getting a penalty for spinning out one of his friends. After the yellow, Luke drove his way back to second, but the leader (Maverick- It was his birthday) had to big of a lead for Luke to catch him and ended the night in second. Levi's feature was just as exciting, he started from the pole and lead the entire race, but was contested heavily by Lucus Gibbs, who draft up and was knocking on his back bumper by the end of the race. They crossed the line so close we could not tell who won, we had to wait for the official word from the tower to find out Levi won his feature. Paden's race was just as exciting, with the top three pulling out to a large lead and racing a good clean race that was exciting. Paden lead the entire race, but Matt was knocking on his back door. Paden started cat fishing the last couple of laps, allowing Matt to close in even further. Paden's race also ended with Matt coming up for the pass on the last lap, but Paden crossed the line first, resulting in another win.
Paden is off to the Kart Nationals this weekend in Minnesota, Luke has the weekend off, and Levi and Devin are off to Wellington for a club race.
See ya all around, PRT

Wellington Points July 14th |
Phillips Racing Team (PRT) traveled over to Wellington Ks. We started the day by locking the keys in the truck. So after an hour and a half wait, we were late getting to the track.
Paden started out on the pole in the first heat race, i finished 3rd after struggling with a loose gokart. In the second heat race i started last, i made it threw the field to second and thats where i stayed fighting a loose gokart still, but better than it was before. In the feature i started 3rd, we couldnt get the race started so we ended up starting the race single file. So after about three restarts of being single file, be finally got the race going and the fun begins! Me and two other driver switched back and forth for the second spot, and crossing the finish line i ended up 3rd. I want to say Congrats to Matt on his second feature win!
Levi started out in the fourth position, Levi made his way up threw the pack, challenging once for the lead but ended up in second. In Levi's second heat race, Levi started fourth again. This time Levi wasted no time getting to the front, and won. In the feature Levi started on the outside pole, Levi ran in second most of the race, but late in the race got past the leader but with a lap car in turn 3 on the last lap, made Levi go high and they went three wide for the win, Levi ended up 3rd. Levi was disapointed at first, but then got over it fast after runnin off with the ladies!
Devin started out in third for his first heat race, Devin was running with the lead pack untill a late race spin, resulting in a last place finish. Devin started sixth in his second heat race, it took him a while to get passed the other competators and finished 3rd. Well after getting that last in the first heat race Devin started toward the back and he took his time, passed one kart at a time and ended up the race in the 4th position!
Luke started out the first heat race on the pole. Luke ran in the lead for most the race, but a late race pass by luke's good friend Mavrick Hall, and Luke finished 2nd. In the second heat race Luke started last and he ran around the back of the field most of the race, the i dont know what he did, if he pushed the peddle down more or what, we dont know, but Luke shot threw the field finishing 1st. That put Luke on the pole for the feature. Luke dropped back at the first of the race, but later put the peddle to the metal, and won it by a full straitaway. Congrats to Luke on his win!
We will be traveling over to Winfield Ks next week, if they get the track fixed from the flood. See ya'll there! |

The Phillips Racing Team (PRT) made the trip to Kansas Cities Thunderlake Speedway. Wellington was running last night also, but did not schedule the race until after plans were already made to go to Thunderlake.
PRT consisted of Paden and Luke for this weekend. Levi and Devin had previous family plans that did not allow them to come.
Hot laps started about 4 with Luke being on fire and passing everyone. Paden's hot laps showed we need to take better notes, because we had the wrong gear on. We got the gear changed for the first heat race and picked up alot of speed.
Luke was the first heat race of the night. I guess at Thunderlake they do things alittle different. The rookies run for 5 minutes and only throw cautions if someone is in the way of traffic. By the end of 5 minutes Luke had lost all interest on running at this track ever again. He said it "shook his brain". The track was so rough, he bruised his ribs, so at the end was taking it real easy in turns 3 and 4. We think he finished about 5th or so out of 11.
Paden was running in the lite and heavy class. The first heat race was the lite class. Paden started at the back and we involved in a lot of crazy racing, Paden finished the first heat race in 5th. His second heat race (first heavy heat race) was just 5 races after the lite, so there was not much time between races to do much. We changed a gear and prepped the tires, we then went out and ran 4th with yet another beating and banging race. We were still the fastest kart on the track by .4 tenths of a second.
Lukes second heat race, in the grid we decided to put Paden's shirt in Luke's seat to provide extra padding to help with the bumps. This time we knew better of the format and Luke was more confortable in the Kart. Luke went out there and whipped up on them and won the race.
Paden's second set of heat races was just as eventful, with Paden finishing with two 2nd place finishes.
The features started about 8pm just as the sun was going behind the hills. Lukes feature was the first one on the track. Luke went out and ran a good race and again was the fastest thing out there. Luke was about 2 laps ahead of anyone else. Luke was the only go-kart that did not spin in the five minutes rule. This was the Rookie spectactular and Luke walked away with lots of goodies plus a very nice trophy.
Paden's first feature started with a 8th place starting spot out of 21 go-karts. On the first lap, Paden was in the middle of a hugh crash that resulted in the red flag. Paden saw the whole thing in front of him and was on top of things enough to miss the wreck. It was a heads up restart, Paden worked his was up to fourth from eighth and by then the front runners were to far ahead. Paden needed a caution to close the gap. The rest of the race went green resulting in Paden ending up in fourth. Paden's second feature was just four races after the first, so we were back at the trailer to change a gear and tires and ended up having a parts failure on the motor mount, which resulted in us not making the race.
All in all was a fun night. Our next race is a points race at Wellington July 14. Hope to see ya there !! |
Winfield June 23rd |
Well today was the little man Luke's b-day! He just turned 7 years old. So we started out the day by goin over to the mexican resturant to have a little mexican b-day lunch. So after it was all said and done it was already 2 o'clock, so we were running a little behind. When we got to the track Mike and Rhonda were already there waiting on us. For the first set of heat races, Paden started on the pole and finished 1st, Levi last and finished 1st, Devin started outside pole and finished 4th, and Luke started last and finished 2nd. The second heat races, Paden started last and finished 2nd, Levi started on the pole and finished 1st. Devin started 6th and finished 6th, and luke started on the pole and finished 2nd. The first feature of the night was Luke, Luke lead pretty much the whole entire race untill the last lap coming outta turn 4, looped it and finished 4th. Good Job Luke! The second feature of the night was Devin, Devin started 4th and ran a good clean race, with no spin outs and finished 6th. Good Job Devin! Levi was the third feature, Levi started on the pole and nobody had anything for him, the second place car was over half the track behind! Good Job Levi! Paden was the last feature for the PRT tonight. The storms were rolling in fast so the track was trying to get threw the rest of the features, Paden started on the pole, the whole race Paden could feel a bump draft from the #55 of Matt Carlson but with one lap to go Matt cut the draft and had a good push from Kristi Pangburn and Matt went on to win his first Feature since coming back to karting! Paden finished a respectable 3rd place.
Our next race is next weekend at the Spencer Lord Nationals over in Wellington Ks, Hope to see ya'll there! |
Wellington Points June 9th |
Was a great night of racing, was real fun for a change. Everyone was in a great mood and the night just went well. Heat races had Paden getting a second and fourth, Luke had two thirds, Levi had a first and last, and Devin had a third and fifth in their heat races. Features rolled around and the sky’s were threatening with rains, so they got busy. Luke was the first one out, he started off slow, then put the gas to it and climbed his was back to third before the race was done. Devin was the next out and he again was fast, just needs that seat time, he ended the night in 11th place. Levi was the third feature for the Phillips Racing Team. Levi had to start mid-pack due to having a last place in his first heat race. Levi gave it his all and passed one at a time and was leading about half way through the race. At the end his tires gave up and he had a challenge for the lead, however he held off Ryan Secrest from a last lap challenge for the win. Paden’s race was the last for us and second from the last race of the night. We were not sure if we would get it in, since the rain was pending. Paden rolled off in the fourth starting spot with the sky's light from lightening Was an exciting race with his friend Matt Carlson. Matt and Paden hooked up and drafted past the leaders and pulled out to a large lead, then with a lap to go Paden made his move and passed Matt for the lead. Matt made one last attempt on the final lap, but Paden held him off for the win.
With those finishs tonight, that leaves Paden and Levi leading the points championship, Devin in 8th for the championship, and Luke with two top fives at Wellington (they don't keep points on the rookies).
The next race is the Winfield make-up race on June 23rd. |
Winfield June 2 |
Was a crazy night for the Phillips Racing Team. The day started out with us arriving at the track late after going to town to eat lunch and it taking tooo long. Dad would not stop talking. We got to the track and Levi and Devin was already there and needing to scale (We also needed to scale, our motor just returned from Jim Jones of L&J Karting from a rebuild after the nationals.) The night started with Levi getting one win in his heat races, Paden also had one win in his heat races, and Luke won one of his heat races. Devin also did well with a third on one of his heat races. Devin also was passing for second when a car spun in front of him and he did an excellent job of watching forward and missed the wreck, but cost him some spots in that heat race. The features had Paden, Luke and Levi starting in second position. The night ended with Levi getting second to Lucus Gibbs in a photo finish. Levi needed just a couple of more laps. Luke ended the night with a second place finish, and was fast all night. The kid that beat him was an 8 year old that had been racing for years. We were real proud of Luke !!! Devin had some problems in the feature, the kart was too loose and he spun just about every lap. He is getting better and better, but needs that additional seat time to get better. Padens night ended with two finishes, the first was in the hay bales and the second passing the line in first. There was confusing with what exactly happened on the track and the speedway decided to not give anyone any points or decided on a finishing order. Paden has counted it was a win, because when the accident happened in turn four for the first finish he was in first and the second finish he crossed the line in first. All and all was a crazy night in which my dad regrets blowing his top and has tried to call all he could to apologize. We will be racing next at Wellington for a points race. See ya there. |
Stanton NE, Kart Pro Series |
On Friday Paden started off quit a bit off but by the end of the day Paden was running with the faster people!
On Saturday, Paden was running good in both morning practices but when it came to qualifying, Paden didnt do so well qualifying 11th and 15th. In the first feature Paden wasnt really fast, ran around the back and finished 11th. In the second feature Paden started 15th, well lets just say we were COMIN! Paden was up to 5th untill a last lap crash ending with paden in the hay bails. Well we had a fun day racin and couldnt wait till Sunday!
Sunday in first round practice paden was lapped 3 times. So we put the kart back on the scales and found alot of things off! In second round practice paden was turning some of the fastest lap times! Well we were feeling pretty good going into qualifying. Paden ended up 12th and 14th in the qualifying order, not want we were hoping for. Well in the feature the motor missed out the whole race. Paden pulled off after being lapped. Well we changed everything we legally could to try to fix it. Paden went out in the second heat race and it did the same, missed out the whole time. So Paden pulled off again. After the races we pulled the motor off and sent it with Mr. Jim Jones to figure what was wrong.
We all had fun this weekend! Got to see a lot of Friends, We will see ya'll next weekend at Winfield Fairgrounds Speedway! |
Wellington Points |
Paden went out and won both heat races and won the feature by a half lap!
Levi was leading his first heat race and spun all by himself so levi got last. The second heat race levi won and Levi won his feature by over a half lap.
Devin did the best he has ever did in his heat races with 2, 2nd place finishes. Devin slid backwards in the feature. He ended up spinning out and getting T-boned! Devin was alright!
Luke was faasst today! Luke went out in his first heat race and the flag man had the green flag out but all luke seen was the yellow light on so he slowed down and ended up last. In lukes second heat race he finished 1st. In the feature luke was a rolin! Luke started around the back and well lets just say the flagman screwed luke again! The flagman turned the green light on, on the backstretch, so luke went and the an offical jumped infront of luke on the frontstrech. Well luke locked up the brakes slid sidways and got T-boned! Luke was ok afterward!
Next race will be Paden racing up in Stanton for the K.A.R.T. Pro Series race. |
Left Dusty off the list |
Last week we forgot and left Dusty off the list of people that attended and supported our race efforts. Dusty we apologize. To make up for the mistake, we are offering you not one but three kittens as a token of our appreciation and as a peace offering. OR if anyone else should like a kitten, please call soon before they make it to the river.
Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY Amber. |
Winfield Kansas/ Kanza Days |
Today was the Annual Kanza Days race! Jeff Kretchmar prepared a hog for the track, it was great, THANKS Jeff.
Today Paden went out and won his first heat race, but in his second heat race I had no throtle control in 3 and 4 so in that case getting last. We desided it was the motor, so while changing the motor we found two cracks in the carb. So we changed out the carb and won the feature!
Levi was really fast and found the draft today. In his first heat race, Levi started from the pole and ended up second. In his second heat race, Levi finished second again. So for the feature Levi started the pole, and with a hard fought race Levi ended up second, with Lucas Gibbs winning. Congrats to Lucas and Levi on there finishes!
Devin did good today as well as the whole PRT team. In Devin's first heat race, he finished 8th after spinning out on the last lap. In Devin's second heat race, he finshed 5th. In the feature Devin raced a good race, but with a couple spins finished 7th. Good Job Devin!
Luke was outstanding today! Luke had some close heat races with his good friend Mavrick Hall, but when it came to the feature nobody had anything for luke as he won by over a half lap!! Super Job Luke!!
Next race is a Wellington Points race. See ya there !! |
Wellington 04/28/2007 |
It ended up being a beautiful day in Kansas and a great day for the Phillips Racing Team.
Paden started the day with a win of his first heat race and then a third in the second heat race after a late race caution for him getting too high in turn two Paden then started from the back of the pack with three laps to go and finished third. In the feature Paden started inside second row and took the lead on the first lap. Paden ended up leading from start to finish, but had stiff competition as an L&J powered teammate Matt Carlson was knocking on his back bummper by the end. Paden and Matt finished with a large lead over third place.
Levi also started the day with a win in his first heat race by 1/2 of a lap. In his second heat race it was a little tougher and ended up with a last lap pass on him for a second place finish. This was still good enough to get Levi the pole position for the feature. In the feature Levi lead from the drop of the green flag until the last lap turn four pass, which resulted in a second place finish for Levi. This had to be the most exiting racing action of the night as the first and second place cars battled until the end.
This was Devins second race on his new ultramax and his first race on this new utlramax at Wellington. He started the day with a great run and a third place finish in his first heat race. In his second heat race Devin also got it rolling and finished four, which landed him a third place starting position in the feature. This was Devin best starting positon ever. Devin hung in there was was running in third, when a lap car got in the way and cause a spin between third and four place, which resulted in Devin spinning into the infield with no caution. Since the flagman did not throw a caution, Devin ended up running in about 9th position. All and all a very good night for Devin, He should be up there running for a win any day now.
Luke also started the night with a win in the rookie class, then in his second heat race, there was a spin and the flagman turned on the yellow light, so Luke was the only racer that followed the directions of the light and slowed for an entire lap. The other kart that spun got going, so the did not throw the yellow flag and just kept going, so it resulted in Luke getting lapped and last place in his second heat race. Luke started the feautre in the sixth starting postion and ran a good race. By the time Luke made it through traffic, his friend Maverick had already had a 1/2 lap lead. Luke ended the night in third.
Was a late night as the races were not over until midnight, then by the time we said by to my aunt Amber and DUSTY it was about 1:30, so it ended up being 4am when we arrived home.
Next race is the Winfield Kanza Days race. Hope to see ya all there. Suppose to be a hog and the rubbermade guy and Mike said there will be a lot go give aways. |
Winfield Kansas, 4/21/07 |
Phillips racing Team attended the races in Winfield Kansas and two of our team members stole a win!
Paden ran in the Jr Heavy class. There were only three entris in Paden's class. In the first heat race Paden started on the pole and won. In the second heat race Paden started on the outside pole and he got second. Both Paden and his competitor got a first and a second, but Paden drew the better number so he started on the pole for the feature. In the feature Paden lead the first 5 laps but then ran off the track and finished second.
Levi was explosive from the start of the green flag! Levi won both heat races, to then later win the Feature over National Champion by 1/2 of a lap! This was Levi's 7th win in a row! Congrats Levi on ur big win!
This was the first races on Devin's new Ultramax. In Devin's first heat race Devin was running third, but with a late spin on the last lap of turn four he spun to avoid a head on and finished 5th. In the second heat race Devin was running 4th when he lost control and went threw the fence! He was ok, just a little shuken up. In the feature Devin started last and made his way up to the fourth postion. Good Job Devin on ur fourth place finish!
Luke was excited for todays race. Luke was the donamate kart the whole day! Luke won both heat races and soon won his feature by a half lap! Luke was excited because he won at his favorite race track! Good Job Luke!!
Next race is Wellington club race and my aunt Amber and DUSTY is coming. So stop by and say hello. |
Spring Madness |
March 23rd&24th, 2007
PHILLIPS RACING TEAM MEMBER SWEEPS SPRING MADNESS !!!!
Levi Phillips of the Phillips Racing team wins four of four races at the seventh annual spring madness. Levi unloaded the trailer fast, and never lifted !! Excellent job for his first run in the Junior 2 class.
Paden was fast Friday in practice but fell off as the day went on and finished 5th after crashing with 5 laps to go in the Lite class, and finishing 7th in the heavy class. Saturday did not get any better, in fact, Paden couldn’t even buy any luck! In practice Paden got a little sideways clipped the wall, hooked the left sides and rolled it over. The funny part of this was Paden was mooning everybody when sliding across the track!! Paden was fine, just a little brused up. But after that Paden hit the wall in the same spot two more times, thus bending three axles!! Finally Paden got it going in the second set of heat races and finished 3rd and 4th. In the first feature, Paden went out, ran one lap, and the clutch bolt came out! Well theirs some of that bad luck you’ve been hearing about! But the next race Paden started last because of crashing in the prior heat races. Paden ran a good race and came through the field to finsh the night 5th. Paden was excited about just finishing a race and not hitting anything! Wish we could have had some luck, but we all still had fun all weekend! Even after hitting the wall, all he could talk about was how fun the weekend was.
Luke had his first race with his new Phenom! Luke did a good job the first day finishing 5th place in his feature. The second day Dad and Paden figured out his air pressures. Luke won both of his heat races and tied for fourth place in his feature.
Great job to the whole Phillips Racing Team!

February 2007 |
Wishing both Paden and Neil Happy Birthday's. Paden on the 4th and Neil on the 6th. |
Tulsa Shootout 2007 |
Want to start out by thanking Jim Jones of L&J Karting for the awesome power and the awesome pit spot, Jim Gibbs for the setup even though it did not get us to the mains in two of the classes, Lloyd Jones for his coaching and support, Mike and Levi Phillips for the pit help and mom and dad for their support and paying for everything this weekend.
The weekend started out real good with practice, where we ran some of the fastest laps of anyone, we where even faster than some of the stock class guys we were pitted with. But the old saying fast on practice day resulted in slow on race day, came to pass. The first day of heat races for us came in race number 87, 113 and 125 of 154 heat races. You have to finish in the top three to transfer to the A main for Saturday or go home. Of course as usual they tore up the race track in between the mini sprints and karts, so our race 87 was the first out on a raw track. I started 8th, and was pushed up the track on the first lap and was sideways, however I came back to run fourth, one spot out of the transfer position. So we felt good about this go-kart and made no changed for the consolation race on Saturday. The next heat race was in the junior animal, where we started 7th and raced our way to 3rd to make it to the A main for Saturday. The final heat race of the day was in the super junior 2, where we started the pole (1st) and faded because we chose the wrong tires and finished last.
Saturday started out the day with the consolation races from the day before, we were in two of them. We were in race 34 and 47, and only took the top two to the A main. Dad called me at 9:30 freaking out cause race 10 was already on the board and we were race 34, however by the time race 34 came around it was almost 2:30. In the junior two class we started the pole and again chose the wrong set of tires, which resulted in the kart being real loose. We did not make the race in this class. The next consolation race was the Super Junior 2 class, which we started 5th and finished 3rd one spot out of a transfer spot. We seemed to get caught up in the stuff and by the time we made it to third the top two were out of reach.
The final race of the day for us was the A main for the animal class. We again were the first class out on the track after all other races were complete and the track was sitting raw and cold from no other races being ran. We did not know what to decide on tires, so we went with a set that was semi hard because the track seemed to have some grip when we walked the track. We however again chose the wrong tires and were sliding all over and ended the day 15th.
The weekend was a fun weekend and I think my dad and I learned a lot of information we can apply to this next year of coming races. We now have some time off and will not race again until March. Till then be cool and chill.

Wichita Turkey Classic |
Phillips Racing Team had a great weekend, between our Junior 3 (Paden), Junior 1(Levi) and Rookie (Luke) we raced a total of 16 races in the last two weeks and finished with Seven 1st place finishes, two 2nd places, four 3rd places, two 4th places, and one 5th place finish.
I must say the horsepower behind the L&J motors was the ticket, and Jim Jones support is above and beyond. Thanks Jim !!!!
See everyone at Tulsa !! |
October 14, 2006 – Thunderlake Speedway – Boogieman Race |
Alyssa Behle joined the Phillips Racing Team for this outing, and we want to thank her for her input and good driving through out the whole night. Was a cold damp night that did not fare well for the entire Phillips Racing team. Luke ran the Rookie class, he competed in the 1st and 2nd heat races before falling asleep before the feature. In Luke’s first heat race he ran real well and did not spin out once and finished the race towards the back of the pack. For the second heat race, Dad changed the clutch driver by 3 teeth and allowed Luke to run closer to the front, this time out Luke finished 3rd. As said before Luke fell asleep before the feature, so we checked with track officials and made sure he would still get his trophy if he did not race. The answer was yes, so we left him sleeping, and his trophy is the biggest of his collection. Levi and Devin ran the Junior 1 medium class, this was Devin’s first time at Thunderlake and he did very well. Devin ended up having to run the B Feature, but we were all still real proud of him for his run. Levi started the night very quick, but got stuck on the outside and had to work his way back to the front in both of his heat races. Levi started his feature 3 row outside, but had motor troubles which resulted in a 12th place finish. Paden and Alyssa ran the Junior 2 lite and medium classes. Both Paden and Alyssa started out the night with the exact same setup. After the first set of heat races, Paden was making changes because his kart had no front end grip and Alyssa left hers alone because she was loose and she decided to just work on tires. They both started working on tires to try and get additional grip on the slick race track. After the heat races, Alyssa made both A main features and Paden had to run the B feature in the lites and made the feature in the medium’s. Paden’s B feature was a wild one with dad getting into an argument with a very large dad (could of kicked his butt), however Paden still won the B feature which allowed him to transfer to the A main feature with Alyssa. In the lite feature Paden and Alyssa ran the exact same lap times, but Alyssa ended up with and 8th place finish and Paden ended up 12th. In the medium feature, they both started right in front of one another on the outside. Both being on the outside resulted in them both getting shuffled to the back of the pack due to the one lane slick track. Since the track ended the night with still no grip and how they shuffled out was how they ran for the finshing order. Based on the stop watch, they were just as fast as the leaders, but the one lane track did not allow for any passing or grip to get to the front. Paden and Alyssa finished 11th and 12th respectively.
Alyssa (and her mom, Libby) thanks again for your help and assistance this weekend. We sure had FUN !!!!
Our next race is the Wichita indoor Turkey classic, hope to see ya all there.

September 30 to October 1, 2006 - WKA Grand Nationals: |
With the fast lap times we were putting down the last week at Winfield, we were feeling real good about our chances at this national event. On Friday for practice, Paden put down some good lap times and we were feeling pretty good about our chances on Saturday, Paden will be racing in four classes this weekend.
Saturday practice came and went and Paden was not up to par to be a front runner. As first round qualifying came around we were scrambling with what to do. Paden ended up qualifying 18th in the Briggs Junior lite class and 12th in the Junior Animal lite class. Racing in the Briggs Junior class was tough, we chose the wrong tires and came up through the field early, but faded to a 12th place finish in the end. In the Junior Animal class Paden was very fast, however he lost control of that speed and jumped another karts tire and put himself in the fence with a bent spindle. Not a bad first day, but would of liked to run better, so Dad stayed at the track real late, tore both karts down, cut new tires and mounted new seats in both karts.
Sunday Paden raced in the Briggs Junior Heavy class and the Junior Animal Heavy class. Qualifying ended up around the same for these two classes, again we chose the wrong tires for qualifying, however we think we finally figured something out. In the Briggs Junior Heavy class Paden started at the back of the pack and came up quickly. At one point Paden was in the sixth position, however we think we set air pressures to high and his tires faded for a 9th place finish. AHHHAAA, we figured something out for the Briggs Animal Heavy race. Tires good, just too high on air. The final race of the weekend was the Junior Animal Heavy class, in which Paden was starting way in the back of the field, it was quite the race. Paden was passing karts right and left, before we knew it Paden was up to 5th place. By the time Paden made it to 5th the first four karts had pulled away from the rest of the field. So Paden ended up getting his first top five at a National World Karting Association event. Good Job Paden, way to drive the wheels off that kart.
Next race is the Boogie Man race in Kansas City. Alyssa Behle will be joining the entire Phillips Racing Team and riding Paden’s 2006 Phenom for this final outdoor race of the season.

September 23, 2006 - Last Points Race at Winfield |
Last points race at Winfield, just needed Paden and Luke to start their features and both would win the WKA regional championship from the Winfield Fairgrounds Speedway. This was the last race before the Grand Nationals at Winfield, so there was some stiff competition with some national drivers there to complete in tonight’s race. Paden and Luke both started out the night with a win apiece in the first set of heat races. In the second set of heat races Paden again was took the win over his girl friend Alyssa Behle. Luke ended up second to Hagan who ran first in the first set of heats, with tied points for the heat races, it was whom ever drew better at the beginning of the night, so Luke ended up with the first place starting position. The features followed with Paden winning, but not without Alyssa knocking on his back door. Alyssa ended the night in second. Luke lead his entire race from the drop of the green to the checkered flag, did not spin out once, for this first feature win at Winfield. As a result of both the boys starting the features they both WON the WKA Regional Championship !!! Great job this year guys !!!
Next race will be the WKA grand Nationals, hope you can make it out to see us race.

September 9, 2006 - Spenser Lord Memorial Race: |
Phillips Racing Team showed up with great hopes of taking home the big checks for the night. Paden and Luke have won the last few times there and Levi has ran second the last few times with Devin getting better every time out. First round of heat races proved to be wild with a lot of karts making an appearance for the Lord family. Luke was the only successful member of the Phillips Racing team with a heat race win. Paden and Levi both had seconds, with Devin getting a third place finish in the first set of heat races. Second set of heat races went about the same with Paden ending up running further towards the back of the pack. When features rolled around it was Luke starting the pole, Levi starting outside second row, Paden starting outside third row, and Devin starting in the eighth position. Luke ran his feature first and just sneaked a win out it, although in the rookie class they are all winners. Luke got his biggest trophy to date, which put a big smile on his face. Good Job Luke !! Next was Levi and Devin’s race. The race started out to be the best race of the night with Levi, the Millers and the Swiggarts all fighting for the win. When on the last lap Devin spun in turn four causing the leaders to scramble, which resulted in Levi crossing the checkered and yellow flag third. It was later decided since there was a caution on the last lap to revert to the previously completed lap, in which Levi was second and Devin was 10th. So Levi ended up getting one of those semi-big checks. Good Job Levi and Devin !! Paden’s feature did not result in a much better showing for Paden. Paden started in the 5th position and ended in the fifth position. We later found out we had a cracked carburetor, which resulted in our motor being off 2 horse on the dyno. So Paden finished 5th with a bad motor. Good Driven Paden !!
Next race is the final Winfield points race, see ya all there !!

Wellington Club Race August 19, 2006 |
What a crazy night !! The whole Phillips Racing team was on a roll, and I guess when you are fast no one likes you very well. Started the night with Luke winning both of his heat races, Paden winning both of his heat races, Levi winning one heat race and a second in the other, and then Devin finished third and fourth in his heat races. It was an awesome night. We were all doing so well.
MSN internet weather called for 90% chance of rain by 9pm; unfortunately they were off by an hour. The skies turned dark, the winded picked up and the lightening started about 8pm. They ended up calling the race due to lightening.
Paden and Luke will be racing at Winfield for a points race next weekend. Levi and Devin have the weekend off. See ya at the next race !! |
Winfield Points race August 12, 2006 |
It was a day well over 100 degres, so hotlaps started a little later. In the first heat, I started second row inside and passed for the lead coming out of turn 2 and lead the whole race and went on to win! In the second heat, I started outside pole and went back to second behind the #50 and finished a really close 2nd almost winning coming out of turn four on the last lap. In the feature, I started on the pole. On lap 2, I was passed for the lead! It was a close race the whole time. Lucas and I were nose to tail the whole race with Lucas winning his first feature of the year at Winfield and me coming in 2nd. Congrats to Lucas on his first Winfield feature win!!
Today Luke was really fast! In his first heat, Luke was running 3rd when 2nd place spun out! The second place guy turned back on the track right in front of Luke and Luke T-boned that kid and Luke slammed his chest into the steering wheel! Thank God for the chest Protector!!! Well that was it for his gokart. It shattered the body! Well Luke desided he wanted to keep racing so after a roll of duct tape to hold the body back together, he raced the 2nd heat and finished 3rd! In the feature, he finished 3rd after spinning his gokart out in one corner! Good job Luke!!
Phillips racing team will be traveling to Wellington this weekend for there club race! See ya there!! |
Greenwood NE. July 28th-30th |
Greenwood Nebraska the 3rd of 4 WKA Heartland Speedway Dirt Series races.
On Friday, I was one of the fastest karts there. It was looking like a promising weekend. We were the fastest or 2nd fastest. It was awesome.
On Saturday, I raced in the Briggs Jr. lite, and Briggs Jr. animal lite. We again were one of the fastest in practice. I dont know what happened but... I qualifing in the Briggs Jr. lite 20th and had to go to second round qualifing. In the animal I qualified 8th pretty good but on the outside on and 1/8 mile track so not to good. In second round qualifing I qualified fastest of all the second round qualifers. In the Briggs Jr. Lite feature, I started 16th and went to the back fast because I was on the outside, but made my way through the pack to about 10th and got my RR into someones LF and got loose and went to the back and finished 15th. In the animal, I started 8th and slide to the back because there was one groove at the bottom and stayed at the back to finish 15th. On Saturday night me and my dad stayed at the track until midnight trying to figure out what happened.
On Sunday I raced in the Briggs Jr. heavy, and the Briggs Jr. animal heavy. Today we were midpack in practice. In the jr. heavy, I qualified 20th. I had to go to second round qualifing. In the animal, I qualified 9th. In second round qualifing, I qualified 5th the last transfer spot. In the Briggs Jr. Hvy feature, I start 20th and made my way to around 12th or 13th and my tires went away and I slide back to 18th. In the animal, I started 9th and I got an awesome start and by turn 1, I was in 4th. I raced hard and made my way to 3rd when all of a sudden my kart developed a push and I slide back to 5th and I jumped the 4th place guys tire and spun out and finished 12th.
Levi and Devin will be racing at Wellington for a points race.
Paden & Luke's next race at Winfield is August 12th. Check back for the results.
See ya there!!!! |
Wellington Club Race 07-08-2006 |
The Phillips Racing Team traveled to Wellington Kansas to the annual Wheat fest club race. It was a hot hot day, well over 100 most of the afternoon. Track was a smooth track today, not a lot of grip, but decent.
Paden race in the Briggs Junior Hvy class. He started the day with two heat race win’s, which earned him the pole position for the feature race. Paden took the lead on the first lap and pulled away from the pack. Under one caution, Miller almost got around him on the start, but Paden hung it on the outside and took back the lead by the end of corner two. Paden went on to win the race by about 3/8‘s of a lap. Paden was real proud of this one, because he worked very hard on tires for most of the week.
Luke ran in the Beginners Rookie class today. He started out the day with two heat race wins as well, however the other heat race of rookie’s also ended with the same winner in both heat races. The other rookie drew better than Luke for starting position, therefore, he started on the pole position, and Luke started second. Luke ran a very good race, kept his line for most of the race. At one point Luke spun out and had to start in the back of the pack. As Luke put it “I passed two at once” He made his way back up front, to end the race in the second position, however after the race the leader was DQ’d and Luke was declared the winner. Good Racin’ Luke!!
Levi ran in the Briggs Junior 1 class today. Levi started the day with a heat race second and a third place in the other heat race, which landed him a fifth place starting position. Levi ran a good hard race, that went back and forth between first second and third. I think this was probably one of the closest races I’ve seen. Levi ended the day with a second place finish. Good Job Levi !
Devin ran in the Briggs Junior 1 class today. Devin started the day by finishing forth in one of his heat races and then fifth in the other heat race, which landed him a seventh place starting position. Devin was running one heck of a race, he is improving week after week. He was running in the fifth position and hit a slick spot on the track and looped it coming out of turn two. When coming back onto the track got high centered and was sitting atop turn two. Before the caution could be thrown, a kart came around and hit him dead into the nose of his kart. Devin spun around and hit his leg on the bolt of the steering wheel. His leg immediately swelled up, so Devin was done for the day. Besides a bruise on his knee, Devin is ok. The kart appears not to be hurt too bad, so expect Devin to be back the next race and better than ever. Excellent job of racing today Devin!!!
Paden and Luke are off this coming weekend. Paden will be traveling to Stanton Nebraska this week to help Lucas Gibbs pit at the KART nationals, then will be racing at the WKA nationals in Greenwood Nebraska in two weeks. All other Phillips Racing Team members have three weeks off.
Good Luck to all who travel to the KART nationals.

Wellington Points race |
Today it was the first time racing at wellington for the 31 of Luke Phillips, and the 98 of Paden Phillips. The 22 of Levi Phillips and 28 of Devin Phillips has been racing there all year.
I was really fast all day. In the first heat I made my way through the pack to finish in 1st!! In the second heat I started the pole and I finished 3rd. We put too much prep on the tires and locked ourselves down. For the feature I started outside second row. The race was very equal. The top four were nose to tale the whole race. Then about halfway through the race I finally found my line and I was the fastest person out there! But lap after lap there was cautions. When we finally got a green flag run my tires kicked in and by that time I made it up to second from 7th. If we had one more lap we could of won, but oh well we still finished awesome!!! In the feature we ran 54 laps just to show you how many laps we ran under caution!!
Luke raced today in the beginner rookie class. He was running full out all day!! In the first heat Luke started on the pole but slipped back to second and finished 2nd. In the second heat Luke started last so by the time he made it up to second the leader was long gone. In the feature Luke started outside pole and took off and won by a HALF OF LAP!!! Good Job Luke!!!!!!
Levi raced in the Jr. 1 class today. He was fast all day. In the first heat Levi started the pole and finished were he started!! In the second heat Levi started last. He was a rocket going through the field but his tires gave out and he finished 3rd. In the feature Levi started 3rd. He was running second the whole race when he was passed and was running forth but on a last lap crash second place spun out and Levi was T-boned HARD!!! He crossed the line 3rd. His nerf bar was into the seat and smashed Levi's arm but he was alright he is just going to have a bruise. Good Job Levi!!!!!
Devin raced in the Jr. 1 class today. In hotlaps Devin spun out every lap. To help Devin not spin out I told him to stay in the black of the race track and he did and finished his best of 3rd (without spinning out!!) In the 2nd heat Devin again didn't spin out and again finished 3rd. In the feature Devin was running very good but spun out a few times and finished 8th!! Good Job Devin!!!!
Next Saturday we are going to head back to Wellington for their club race. Stay tuned to see how we do. |
Winfield Points Race June 24, 2006 |
Not many karts on hand tonight, but the competition was stiff as aways. In the heat races I just could not get any grip on the track and finished 2nd in both of them to Matt Carlson. In the feature it was quite the battle between Lucus, Matt and I. We all changed positions 2 or three times, before my tires finally came in. I then took off from the field and finished the race a half a lap or so in front of the others. Matt finished 2nd and Lucus ended up third. Was the first time all night my kart was getting any grip.
Luke raced the black plate rookies and in the heat races also struggled with grip. In the both heat races he spun out quite a few times and finished last in both. For the feature we let most of the air out of his tires and he finished the whole race with no spins and ending the night with a second place finish. Good Job Luke !!!
We have a couple of weekends off now, but may show up at a track near you, we will try and post if we get the itch to go racing. |
WKA Heartland race 2 - Kartwheels speedway June 17 & 18, 2006 |
Race 2 of the World Karting Association's Heartland series got under way with practice on Friday June 16th. The track was quick with times a little fast than the prior year. I was one of the fastest karts all day. We spent the day rather than chasing the track, just working with tires and setting up for the days to come. Saturday morning did not look good, it rained all night and was still misting. It was a long day of waiting and waiting. We finally got on the track about 4pm and got a couple of practice sessions in, then went out for qualifying. In the Briggs Junior class I qualified 10th, Alyssa my gold plate teammate qualified 3rd, and Matt Carlson my other gold plate teammate qualified 21st. In the Briggs Junior Animal class I qualified 13th. Come race time, I started the race in the 10th spot climbing my way into 2nd place by the 11th lap. I was in the 2nd position for about 4 laps, then I was moved out of the groove and was running in the third spot, then the other brother moved me out of the groove and I went all the way back to about 12th or so. I worked my way back up to 8th in the final 4 laps. Alyssa's tires gave out and she finished 14th. Matt got sideways and got ran over and finished 24th. In the Briggs junior animal class, the dew fell and my tires were not ready for that, so I was not as fast as I needed to be, however we still ended the day 9th. Not a bad day at all!! Was fast and ran up front with the best.
Day two started out with the track getting real fast. In qualifying I got 18th, Matt got 19th and Alyssa qualified outside pole. In the Animal I qualified 17th, two tenths off the pole. In the Briggs junior class I was real fast, Jim Jones and Jake Aries assisted my dad in setting up the kart and we were real fast for the feature. I was picking them off one at a time, when Alyssa got spun out and was sideways in the middle of turn 4, I checked up and got hit from behind and was spinning sideways and crashed right into the side of Alyssa. Alyssa ended up getting hit three times by the time it was all done. When I hit her, I flipped over on my top and thought my day was done, however after we turned the kart back over it started so we continued with the race. Alyssa also was shook-up, but continued on with the race. Since we both had stopped forward motion, they made us both start in the back. We were working toward the front very quickly. I would push her through the corner, the follow her through, until at one point I was sliding through the corner and since I had no side panel and open wheels, my wheels got caught up in another kart and I spun. They did not throw a caution so I lost a lap, and ended up finishing 16th one lap down. Alyssa ended up in another crash and ended up going through the fence in turn four. Alyssa ended up the day 20th. Matt was charging to the front and was at one point was up to tenth, however he somehow lost his transponder and at every caution, the stuck him at the back. This was because he was not being scored on the computerized scoring system. Matt ended the day 24th. Lucas Gibbs was on fire he qualified the pole and won the race by a full straight away.
Next race is Winfield Points this next weekend. We have a lot to do to get the kart all fixed from the weekends mayhem.

Winfield Points Race June 10, 2006 |
Today was the third point’s race at Winfield; it was hot, hit 100 according to the bank temperature gauge. It was a small show at the Winfield track but the competition was strong in my class Alyssa Balhe from Iowa and National champ Lucus Gibbs was also there. We started the day with winning the BOTH heat races, which put us on the pole for the feature event. On the first lap of the feature I found myself sideways, and hit Lucus (he straightened me back out, but cost him some time). He later spun causing a caution. This is what Lucus needed because this caught him back up to me and Alyssa. In the feature we all three were about the same speed and raced back and forth until I finally finished first with Lucus second and Alyssa third. It was a real fun night.
Luke's class was the biggest class of the night with 7 rookies. Jim Jones ended up splitting them up, so there would be good racing. Luke also had a good night because Dad finally worked on his kart during the week and help tighten it up. Luke started the night by getting into a couple of wrecks, but in the feature finish the entire race with no spins and a second place finish. Good Job Luke !!
Levi and Devin raced at Wellington's Wordon Park Speedway. Levi finished 3 making him 2nd in the points. Devin finished 8th making him 6th in the points. Good Job guys!!
Next race ~~The World Karting Association Heartland Dirt Series Nationals in Stanton Nebraska this next weekend.

Winfield Points Race May 27th 2006 |
Today I raced in Briggs Animal Heavy, and Briggs Jr. Heavy. In the animal I finished 3rd in both heats. In the first heat I jumped the leaders tire with two laps to go. In the Jr. Heavy class I finished 1st and 2nd! In the first heat I came from the back to front riding on the high groove. In the second heat I had the pole to start the race and finished that way just barely beating Justin Beam. In the animal feature I started 3rd, then on the start someone took out the leader and I had nowhere to go and but to get caught up in the wreck. On the restart a kart didn't get a good start and I was passing on the inside when I hit a cone. (Jim had cones on the track so the rookies wouldn't run the bottom on the straight aways) That put me behind the leaders by about a half of a lap. I then just concentrated on my line and by the end of the 25 laps caught the leaders but did not have any tires left to contend. I ended up finishing 3rd. In the Jr. Heavy I started on the pole for the feature. On the start, my clutch seemed to not be hitting right and I didn't get a good start and was passed by two other karts. I was right there with the leaders and a kart must of checked up or something and I locked up the brakes and spun out off the track. On the restart I was put at the back for spinning out and made my way back up to 4th. Felt both karts were fast but Dad and I were trying some low-cross setups and found they were fast after a couple of laps but was slower out of the gate.
Luke raced today in the rookie class. He was really fast but kept spinning out of turn four. He finished 4th in both heats. Luke was really fast again in the feature but again spun out and they didn't throw a caution so he finished 5th. Good job Luke! I told dad to work on his setup for next time.
Our next race is the points race at Winfield. See ya there.

WKA race May 19th-21st 2006 |
WKA Heartland Dirt Series Nationals at Lasoski Speedway, Warrensburg, Missouri.
This weekend I raced in four classes Briggs Jr. lite, Briggs Jr. heavy, Briggs Jr. animal lite and Briggs Jr. animal heavy.
In practice I was fast. I was one of the fastest of my classes, but later got locked down when trying to find more speed. Could not get under an 11.6 second lap.
Saturday, May 20th I ran in Briggs Jr. lite, and Briggs Jr. animal lite. They loaded the track with calcium, but there was no sun to put rubber down so it was greezy and slimy. In the Jr. lite I qualified 22nd and in the Jr. animal I qualified 13th. In the feature I ran a good race and was breaking the top 10 when I got out of the groove and ended up 17th. In the animal feature I quickly made it to the top 10 and about to 7th when I was spun into the hay bales. WKA acually threw a caution and I made it back up to 16th. Thank you Aunt Mary and Richard for coming to watch.
Sunday, May 21st I ran in Briggs Jr. heavy, and Briggs Jr. animal heavy. They again loaded the track with calcium but today there was a little sunshine to give the track a little rubber, but still ended up slimy. In Jr. heavy I qualified 23rd because we could not find any grip out of turn four. In Jr. animal I qualified 6th, thanks to Jim Jones for helping us find that grip!! In the first feature I was running about one tenth off the leaders and finished 16th. In Jr. animal I started 6th and was passing for the 3rd place when I had my tire jumped and spun out. After I got back going I was 1 lap down and finished 16th the first car on the lead lap.
Lucas Gibbs, the fastest of the Jones Racing Team, raced in Jr. Sportsman 2 lite and heavy. On Sunday he won a pole and he finished 1st in one race a half a lap ahead of everyone else and got his body ripped off in the other. Good Job Lucus.
Cody Kretchmar, a fast member of the Jones Racing Team, raced in the Jr. Sportsman 1 lite and heavy. He qualified 6th and 7th. He ran out of gas in one and finished 9th in the other. Good Job Cody.
Alyssa Bahle, another fast member of the Jones Racing Team, raced in Briggs Jr. lite and heavy. She qualified 11th and 20th. She finished 7th and 25th in the other one (She got taken out). Thanks to her dad for helping us this weekend. Good job Alyssa.
Levi & Devin Phillips raced at Wellington for a points race. Levi finished 2nd after leading most of the race. Devin finished 8th. Good Job Guys. |
Kansas City Thunderlake Points Race |
May 6, 2006
Happy 30th Birthday Amber!!!
Todays points races at Winfield and Wellington tracks were rained out, so with three hours before hotlaps at Thunderlake (and that is a 2 1/2 hour drive to the track) we made a quick decision to make a trip to Kansas City's Thunderlake speedway. The track told us they had no rain and were not forecasted to get rain, so we headed out. It rained all the way up to I-70, then on the other side of I-70 it cleared up and the races were on. We arrived with about 30 minutes to change the motor to the L&J rocket KART motor. We got the motor changed just in time for hot laps. In the first set of hot laps Paden was the class of the field with running 13.6 second laps when everyone else was well in the 14's. For the heat races, Paden had to line up scratch for all the races because of a miscommunication during sign in and they thought Paden had never raced before. Paden started all four heat races last and finished 2nd in all four. Probably could of won them all if not having to start so far back, but anyways that gave us an excellant starting spot for the features. In the first feature Paden worked his way up to the front to draft with Luke Driskel (just as they planned before the race) then with 5 laps to go they had the "BIG ONE". It looked like a Talladega race where fourth and fifth spun in front of the entire field and there was a hugh pile up that involved most of the field and ended up sending one to the hospital (she was ok, it was just for precautionary measure). Then on the restart Paden and Driskel setup the draft again, but this time did not have time to pull away. With three laps to go, the fifth place kart drove it in too hard and caused a chain reaction and the third place kart jumped Paden's left rear bringing out another caution. They made Paden pull off because his nerf bar was dragging the ground. So Driskel ended up winning that race and Paden had a DNF. As for the next feature, Paden started outside pole and after a couple of laps took the lead and led most of the race. With one lap left the second place kart got around Paden and we ended the night with a 2nd place finish.
All in all was an exciting race and made the Phillips Racing Team feel proud to show up at a track we had only been to one other time and be competitive. Good Job Paden.

Warrensburg Missouri $1000 to Win |
April 22nd, 2006
Today Paden ran in Jr. lite, heavy and animal. In the first set of heat races, Paden finished last in all three races. Seemed to take Dad a couple of races to figure out the setup and proper gearing, since this was our first showing at Warrenburg. In the second set of heat races Paden improved and finished 2nd in all of them. As for the features a wall cloud came out of nowhere and took the features with rain. The pay outs were awarded by the feature line up. Paden got 9th, 14th and 3rd.
Today Luke ran in the rookie advance class. Luke started the day a little gun shy since this was his first ever race on a other than local track. As the night went on Luke got faster and faster and ended the night in the last heat race on the lead lap in finishing 5th. The rain also won this race as it started pouring as they were calling the rookies to the grid.
Next race is a Winfield Points and benefit race for Gunner Shultz. See ya there !! |
Winfield Points race |
April 15th 2006
Today Luke was on rails. In his first race Luke ran 3rd out of six. The 2nd heat Luke was NO FEAR! He started last and was passing for the lead and got spun out. He was put to the back and again Luke made his way to the front and again got spun out. So this time Luke got his spot back and the girl went to the back. After the restart Luke put alot of distance on second place. But coming around for the checkered flag spun out by himself in turn four. In the feature Luke Got took out while passing for the lead and sheared all the teeth of his sprocket so finished 6th. GOOD JOB Luke!!
Paden ran well too. In the first heat race he started last and made his way up to 2nd. In the second heat race Paden started on the Pole and finished 1st! Paden had the pole for the feature. He lead about the first five laps, then Lucas Gibbs passed him. About five laps later Lucas blew his motor. So Paden Took the lead back over. With two laps to go Paden Got passed by Trenton Kleweno and finished 2nd. Pretty good night.
Neil raced also in the Controlled Animal class (Geriatric Class) he hasen't got his motor yet so he ran Paden's Animal. He ran good learning the right line. He ended up 3rd. He had alot of fun!
Levi and Devin both raced in Wellington in the Jr.1 class. Levi finished 3rd and Devin finished 9th. Good job guys! |
Spring Madness ~Kansas Colesium, Wichita |
March 17th and 18th
Paden ran in Jr.2 lite, Jr. 2 Heavy and Jr. Animal. Paden ran pretty good and finished 9th in the lite, 18th in heavy(after running out of gas)and 2nd in Jr. Animal all out of 20 gokarts.
Luke, this was his first time out for a while, so his first race out is took it easy a putted around the track and took his time. By the feature Luke as all gas and no break, he ended up third after a wild fast feature.
The second day Paden also ran in the Jr.2 med, jr. 2 Heavy and Jr. Animal. Paden ran AWESOME today. In the Jr.2 Med. Paden started 6th(on the outside). When going into the 1st corner got his tire jumped and was put to the back. He restarted 20th. Paden made his way up threw the pack to finish 3rd almost taking second out of turn four. In Heavy Paden started 17th out of 20 and again made his way threw the pack and again finished 3rd, it was a very exciting race. In the Animal Paden started on the pole and took off and lapped over half the field. After, in tech we found out we had the wrong plate in it. Get this, it was an IKF show but they ran a WKA plate in Jr. Animal. We didn't know this, so we were DQ. All in all it was a Fast and fun day.
Luke on the second day had his confidence and ran very well all day, Luke ended the day third and on the lead lap! |

Well the 2005 season has came and gone. Final results are posted below. We want to first thank Jim and Lloyd Jones of L&J Karting, Winfield Kansas. Jim by far and way is the number one reason we had the year we had, without Jim’s support I can’t even image where we would be today, and Lloyd’s coaching was invaluable and helped Paden become a better driver though out the year. We would also like to thank Jim Gibbs for all his assistance this year, and would like to thank all the sponsors listed on the “Sponsors Page” they are who allows us to be so successful in a sport we all love as a family. Highlights of the year include Paden making the cover of the WKA Karting Scene magazine, Paden winning a pole at a WKA national event, and making 2 of three features at the Tulsa Shootout, where over 1200 entries were on hand. Levi’s highlight of the year “winning a Turkey Classic Pole, and winning my first race as a karter” Levi says. 2005 Final Race Results: Paden: 2005 WKA Regional Points Champion, Winfield Fairgrounds Speedway, Winfield, Kansas 4th place Regional KART points, Junior 2, Wheatland Karting Association, Wellington, Kansas 8th place WKA Heartland Nationals, Junior Animal Lite 11th place WKA Heartland Nationals, Junior Animal Heavy 12th place WKA Heartland Nationals, Briggs Junior Heavy 18th place WKA Heartland Nationals, Briggs Junior Lite Paden raced a total of 35 races this year. Well the Tulsa Shootout has came and gone. Paden raced in three classes. Briggs Junior 2, Super Briggs Junior 2 and Junior Animal. The first day was practice; we mainly concentrated on tires, not changing much setup and were decent all day. The track got pretty fast, and was pretty smooth considering all the karts, quads and mini sprints.
Day two consisted of heat races. Paden's first heat race, which was also the first race on the track, ended with Paden getting spun out a couple of laps in and we all know at Tulsa (no yellows) you have no chance. Paden's second heat race was with the Animal and while Paden was racing for second place, the third place kart got into Paden in the corner, and Paden spun back into the other kid and sent that kid to the infield. That straighten Paden back out, for a second place finish and a transfer spot to the "A" main. Paden's third race was in the Super Junior 2. Paden was fast in this race was coming from behind and made it up to Second place (dad thought it was a win, he did not see the kid up front) It was a very exciting race to watch Paden race to the front from the back of pack to make again the "A" main.
Day three consisted on one consolation race, which again was the first race on the track after the officials graded and repacked the track. Dad made the wrong choice on tires and put some real soft tires on the kart. I could hear the tires squealing all the way around the track. Next was the Junior Animal "A" main. Paden started the race in 5th place, and developed a push in the kart. Paden held on and placed 9th and received a large trophy for his efforts. Last race of the day was the Super Junior 2, Paden started 14th, on the outside, and drifted to the back in the first two laps, then was making his way back up to the front (very quickly). Paden was in the 5th spot when another kart got into the side of him and blew out a left rear tire. Paden finished the race sliding all around because of the flat tire and ended up 18th.
The Phillips Racing Team is proud of just making the "A" main in two of the races. There were 48 karts there in the 12 to 14 division. We would also like to thank Tim and Cody for their help in the pits. Without them we could not have been as competitive in all three classes.
Phillips Racing Team in now on rebuild for the winter. Our next race will be the spring classic in Wichita, Kansas, where Luke will be racing in the rookie class, Paden will be racing in Junior 2 and Junior Animal, Levi will be racing Junior 1 and Devin will be racing rookie.
Talk to everyone later.

August 20, 2005 ---Wellington Points Race |
Points race!! Was a little rainy leaving Chanute today. The answering maching at the track said they had NO rain. As we drove closer, it was still raining. Was in real heavy rain in Winfield. Saw Loyd's River in front of his house. But still NO rain at Wellington.
Well the rain finally came to Wellington. They moved the points race from Saturday to Sunday.
Paden raced in the Jr. 2 class. Paden won his first heat race with Justin knocking on his back door. Finished 5th in the second heat race because the pit guy missed the set up. He started 6th in the Feature. He moved his way up to take a 2nd place finish with a loose gokart. Justin Beam took the win. Congrats Justin!!
Neil got 3rd in his first heat, 4th in the second heat. He finished 4th in the Animal class feature. LOOK OUT, he said he learned "something" in the feature.
Levi finished 5th in Jr. 1. Devin raced in the Rookies finishing the race. |
August 12, 13, 14th 2005 WKA - Lasoski Speedway |
This is the 3rd Race in the WKA Bully clutch Heartland Dirt Series. Lasoski Speedway in Warrensburg Missouri.
We had never been to Lasoski Speedway before. Very steep banking (Like Bellville). Paden got to Practice on Friday. He was real fast. We were all excited about getting to race on this "bowl". However, the Rain came cutting practice a little short.
Saturday was a big muddy mess. We waited until afternoon to let the track dry out. It was getting there and the Rain came again, causing Saturdays races to be cancelled. Went downtown Warrensburg to Ole Barney's...Great food, good time -- too good of a time!!
The Rain stuck around cancelling Sundays races also.
Next race in the WKA series is the 4th and last race.....Winfield Kansas Sept. 30, Oct. 1st and 2nd. |
July 23, 2005 Winfield |

We arrived at the track at 7:00 am. Seems we were the fist ones at the track besides Randy who was getting the water out of turn one. We are racing the Jr. Kage Kart and Jr. 1 Medium classes today. We seemed to have some bad luck in the Kage. We blew up our new motor. It didn't even make it around one lap. We put our backup motor on and in the rush of things forgot the OIL & blew a second motor. Needless to day the Kage is done for the day. Now on to the Jr. 1 Med. Paden didn't seem to be doing too well all day. In the feature, Paden was leading when a kart got around him. He was holding his line & a second kart jumped up over Paden's back bumper, onto his back, hitting his arm then on over the front causing this kart to flip. Thank God, Justin was ok!! In the end Paden took a 2nd place finish. A pretty good ending to the day and weekend. |
